Red Squirrel Safari
Length: 2-4 hours
Best time of year: All year round
Best time of day: Mid-morning
Possible species*: Red squirrel! Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Wood warbler (S), Willow warbler (S), tits and finches, Buzzard, Red kite, Osprey (S).
Description: We will visit one or a couple of good sites to see Red squirrels in the St Fillans and Comrie area.
The first site is only a hop and a skip from where we park the car, in a small mature woodland packed with small birds and passing raptors. We will sit still and silent until the squirrels make an appearance and watch all the other goings-on in the wood whilst we wait. Depending on time and length of safari requested, we will move on to another site where we will take a short walk into another woodland and find somewhere to sit up and wait. If we have still not seen a Red squirrel, we will head to some feeders where we will be sure to see some!
Both sites will require walking over uneven ground and up slight slopes, but not for any great distance.
