Self-catering St Fillans Weekend Wildlife Break

Based on 2 people staying for 2 full days and 2 half days (Fri pm, Sat, Sun, Mon am)

You will receive a warm welcome from Richard at Lochearnside’s self-catering annex which sits by the side of Loch Earn and has incredible views straight up the loch from the upstairs living area. It is situated in the heart of St Fillans only a 5 minute walk from all local amenities including the Village Store, famous for its bacon rolls. The annex is comfortable and well-equipped and even welcomes well behaved dogs.

Checking in from 4pm Friday, you will have time for a quick cuppa before we come and take you on a casual stroll around the village and its immediate environs which will include walking along the river, the loch, woodland and even the golf course. We will stay beside the river until dusk for a chance of seeing Otter or bats (dependent on the season). After this, we will go for a wee dram at The Achray House Hotel to chat about the itinerary for the rest of the weekend.

We will start early on Saturday (between 7-9am depending on sunrise times) and drive along a couple of glens in search of raptors and other birds. We will stop and take a stroll for 1-2 hours (as preferred) to take in some of the must see local natural wonders such as the Deil’s Cauldron. We will have a packed lunch and then drive on looking for more species whilst heading back in the direction of St Fillans to drop you off at Lochearnside mid-afternoon. After a break and some dinner, we will come back before sunset to take you down to another part of the River Earn with a chance of seeing Beaver or Otter. After this you have the option of returning to your accommodation to relax or we can take you for another wee dram in Comrie at the pub or bar at The Royal Hotel.

Another early start to walk along the south side of the loch looking for woodland birds i.e. Wood Warbler, Redstart, Spotted Flycatcher, Treecreeper, Bullfinch, various tit species, Buzzards and also keep our eyes peeled for Red Squirrels. We will walk back to the village and drop into the Village Store for a breakfast roll (optional). We will you leave for some free time and then pick you up again mid-afternoon for another drive into more local glens and the option of a longer walk whilst out with the opportunity of searching for upland birds such as Hen Harrier and Merlin and also Golden Eagle. We will provide lights snacks and water whilst out walking. We will drop you back early evening so you can get some dinner at home or at one of the local hotels such as The Achray House Hotel or the Four Seasons.

On Monday you will required to check out at 10 am so we can pick you before then if you are really keen to get another couple of hours in by the river, or we can pick you up shortly after 10 am. We can then take you on one last driven tour until lunchtime (time flexible) before bidding you adieu and a safe journey home.

Indicative price for this package for 2 people is £495.00. Prices will vary depending on requirements and availability of this accommodation. Alternative accommodation may be available.
